Clinical Trials

Clinical research is the study of health and illness in people. Through clinical research, we learn how to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses. IPTB strives to convert direct research evaluations into new treatments to benefit patients. A clinical trial is a type of voluntary clinical research study that is designed to answer specific questions about possible new treatments or new ways of using existing treatments. Clinical trials at IPTB are careful processes which evaluate psychiatric and neurologic conditions. Should you have a condition or interest in participating in clinical research, our staff is happy to conduct a complimentary phone screen to get a better sense of who you are and to evaluate which research option is best for you.

Medication Management

We offer a personalized approach to psychopharmacologic management based on your history and individual preferences and will work with you to weigh the benefits of medications against the side-effects that they may cause. While some patients respond to a single medication, certain treatment resistant or more complicated conditions may require the use of multiple medications. Using all available options, our practice takes a strategic, step-wise approach to medication management resulting in better outcomes and improved quality of life.

Interventional Psychiatry

Interventional Psychiatry is a growing field within psychiatry that utilizes treatments other than traditional oral medications and psychotherapy. When performed in addition to standard care, interventional treatments can enhance overall mental health while often reducing the need for medications, as well as, leading to symptomatic improvement sooner than with medications alone. Interventions such as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and nasal esketamine (Spravato) are examples and are often used when medications have not been effective or patients have experienced intolerable side-effects.

Second Opinions & Consultations

We have over 12 years of experience treating complicated mood disorders and provide second opinions and consultation services for patients who seek further clarification of their diagnosis or want to consider different treatment options. A second opinion may be appropriate if you are not responding to standard prescribed treatments, are having problems tolerating your current medications, or if you are pregnant or wish to become pregnant. It may also be useful when your diagnosis is uncertain or if your doctor is not a specialist in your condition. Many providers will refer to us when diagnosing and treating certain disorders such as Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD) and Bipolar Disorder that is refractory to medications. We offer outpatient evaluations that are designed to give patients, families, and their referring clinicians a comprehensive and timely opinion as well as a set of treatment options.
